Why do you do this migration thing? I have comments, but I can't leave them there!
> I have to admit that I do not think of materialism that way.
If I had written this, it would have been rather an understatement. The very nice author you are discussing said:
> Once the rivals are understood as philosophical rather than scientific
And my sincere response is to say OH DEAR LORD, human beings are about as good at philosophy as a four year old flipping a coin. The idea that materialism means "Consciousness arises from predictive processing" is itself an example of such a coin flip, and I'm not even sure the four year old caught the coin. I'm not what most people call a materialist, but really? Consciousness arises from predictive processing? Materialism might suggest consciousness probably arises from some looping nonlinear process, but who knows what.
Good to know you have comments.... !!! currently I am working on getting disqus to work nicely with my chosen website bullder and it took me 4 weeks to work out what Publii documentation meant by "precise" when setting up FTP pathways.
It's a very restricted set, while it does seem to include both serial and parallel forms of computation, the frame it uses is what I regard as logic as a hindsight, and prediction is a projection in that causal mechanistic way, but the show is not created in or by prediction... so confusing
A note on this frame stuff : some culture/languages look forward into the past, and backwards into the future, which would make more sense when discussing some aspects of the gap. You can see the past.
Following ups to the post above where these comments on predictive materialism lie:
