Recently I found this passage by Bernard Berenson:

"Memory is curious, capricious, incalculable, inexplicable, like all other realities. What is it? Is it a

thread? No, rather a nerve rivulet conveying what is left over of a vital experience from somewhere in the past to the present instant.p.15

Memory may be the core of the sense of one's own personality, but this sense has much besides, many threads of various tissues and colors are wound round this core. p.16

It would have to be endowed with miraculous powers to preserve for thousands and ever more thousands of years, world without end, a feeling of being still the same that one was for some paltry decades here below.p.17

To myself I am an energy of a given force of radiation, and of a certain power of resistance; and I seem to be the same in these respects that I remember being when I completed my sixth year.In essence I remain the same that I was at the dawn of my awareness.p.21

There may be an immortal life for each of us, nay for every entity that ever has had life, but to finite minds like mine its ways and means as a condition of existence are inconceivable. Inconceivable unless indeed,as mystics tell us, we are to live afters mortal life in God, without memory, without individuality and without an identity of our own."

If you conclude that humans are "living fossils",Berenson compare them with "an energy of a given force of radiation" and "a certain power of resistance". It is interesting to look at the definition of matter:Matter is the substance+energy. So you, two minds, are characterizing the living matter from two different directions.Berenson(1865-1959) can not change anything now, while you Meika have enough time to expand the concept of alignment versus trajectory as a bunch of vectors to alignment versus energy as a bunch of waves. For this you will need knowledge of quantum mechanics . Will you?

I like the idea that identity emerges from aligning many trajectories rather than following a single direction.
